History

The event was established in 1877, and it was initially contested over 900 metres. It was named after Haras de Meautry, a stud farm which is located in Touques, near to Deauville. Its distance was extended to 1,000 metres in 1887.

The Prix de Meautry was abandoned throughout World War I, with no running from 1913 to 1919. Its present length, 1,200 metres, was introduced in 1921.

The race was cancelled once during World War II, in 1940. For the remainder of this period, while its regular venue was closed, it was switched temporarily between Maisons-Laffitte (1941–43, 1945) and Longchamp (1944). The distance at Longchamp was 1,300 metres.
